All of your recipes are displayed on the recipes screen. On phones, the recipes list fills the screen, and you can bring up the categories list by tapping the name of the current category at the top of the recipes list. On tablets, the categories list is displayed in the pane to the left of your recipes.

The recipes screen offers two ways to view recipes: a grid view with photos, and a list view showing details such as the thumbnail, name, rating and source. You can flip between these views using the view button in the floating toolbar at the bottom of the recipes screen. Its icon shows the view it will switch to.

Browsing by Category

All Recipes is the default selected category, which displays all of your recipes in alphabetical order.

If you would like to change the selected category, press the All Recipes button in the toolbar to reveal the categories list. From here, you can tap on a different category to select it.

Browsing Subcategories

To select a subcategory, press the button next to a category to navigate into its subcategories, and then tap on one of the subcategories.

Searching Recipes

The recipes screen contains a search button in the toolbar that you can tap to search for specific recipes in your collection. Press the search button and start typing, and your recipes listing will be filtered as you type.

Paprika matches what you type against the start of words, so chick finds "chicken" and "chickpeas", but cake doesn't find "pancake". Words you type together are matched as a phrase, so sour cream finds "sour cream" but not "cream, sour". Capitals and accents don't matter.

While searching, the options above the results change what's searched:

• Search In - The fields to search: Name, Ingredients, Directions, Description, Notes, Source, and Source URL. Only Name is selected at first, and Paprika remembers your choice for your next search.
• Categories - Limit the search to one or more categories, or to Favorites, Uncategorized, or the Trash. Choosing a category includes its subcategories. When you choose two or more, choose All to find recipes in every one of them, or Any to find recipes in at least one.
• Cookbooks - Search one cookbook, several, or All Cookbooks. When a search covers more than one cookbook, the category list has a section for each cookbook.

Tap Search Options to show or hide the Categories and Cookbooks choices.

A search starts in the cookbook and category you're browsing. To search your whole collection, choose All Recipes under Categories and All Cookbooks under Cookbooks.

Advanced Search

The advanced search editor finds recipes by almost anything about them, such as recipes under 30 minutes, recipes rated four stars or more, or recipes without a photo. To open it while searching, tap Advanced... in the search options. Any words in the search field become rules in the editor.

An advanced search is made of rules. Each rule picks a field, a condition, and a value:

At the top of the rules, choose whether recipes must match all or any of them. Tap the button to add a rule, or choose Add Group to add a group of rules with its own all or any choice. Tap the button to remove a rule or group. Under Sort, you can choose how the results are sorted.

When you're done, tap Search. The search options are replaced by a summary of what you're searching for. To change the search, tap Edit Search.

Saved Searches Premium

You can save an advanced search to run again later. In the advanced search editor, tap Save Current Search, enter a name, and tap Save. Saved searches sync to all of your devices.

To run a saved search, open the advanced search editor and tap the search under Saved Searches, then tap Load. This replaces the search in the editor. Tap Search to run it.

To change a saved search, load it, make your changes, and tap Update Saved Search. To rename or delete a saved search, tap and hold it in the editor, and choose Rename or Delete.

Sorting Recipes

You can sort recipes by pressing the button in the floating toolbar at the bottom of the recipes screen. Choose the field you would like to sort by: Name, Rating, Most Recent, Prep Time, Cook Time, Total Time, or Servings.
